Cenex to support Europe’s largest hydrogen refuelling infrastructure network and vehicle project
Cenex’s expertise at data analysis and dissemination will be critical to success of ambitious, Europe-wide, multi-partner investigation
Loughborough, UK – 14 June 2016: Cenex is to play a crucial role in the latest pan-European demonstration of how hydrogen can support Europe’s future transport demands. The six-year H2ME 2 project brings together 37 partners from across Europe to deploy 1,230 fuel cell vehicles and 20 extra hydrogen-refuelling stations (HRS) to the European network. It will also test the ability of electrolyser-HRS to help balance the electrical grid. The project has been developed under the auspices of the Hydrogen Mobility Europe (H2ME) initiative and supported by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU), with funding from the European Union Horizon 2020 programme.
Cenex is already a central partner in a first H2ME project, H2ME 1, (www.H2ME.eu), which will deploy 300 vehicles and 29 HRS as part of a pan-European network. The company’s role in H2ME 2 builds on its work in H2ME 1 through the analysis of vehicle and HRS performance to establish the technical readiness of vehicles and stations for wider deployment. In H2ME 2, Cenex will additionally support the dissemination of critical information and recommendations to key stakeholders. In both projects, Cenex will work with consortium partners to provide data and support dissemination to allow policy-makers, early adopters and the hydrogen mobility industry to validate the readiness of the technology for commercial rollout.
Robert Evans, CEO of Cenex, said: “H2ME 2 complements the great work started in H2ME 1. It brings together multiple businesses and public bodies to work jointly on the common goal of making hydrogen-fuelled transport in Europe a reality. Cenex’s expertise in data analysis will play a key role in assessing the technical readiness of hydrogen-fuelled transport and its potential as a solution for Europe’s future transport demands. We’re proud to be playing a part in supporting Hydrogen Mobility Europe projects. Together with our work on E-mobility and gas as a transport fuel, the H2ME projects are key exemplar projects addressing the present and future viability of alternative fuels as sustainable solutions for European road transport.”
As well as conducting data analysis, Cenex will also work alongside H2ME 2 partner hySOLUTIONS and national coordinators from the eight countries involved in the trial, to facilitate the dissemination of key findings of H2ME 2 to stakeholders through reports, events and workshops, helping the European market prepare for widespread vehicle rollout.
