NHS Fleet Tool
Case Study
The Challenge
Cenex has provided specialised support to the NHS Net Zero Travel & Transport team in developing its net zero strategy. As part of this work, the NHS team identified that a web-based tool allowing NHS Trusts to assess the operational, economic, and environmental benefits of different types of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) would help accelerate the trust’s shift to zero-emission (ZE) vehicles.
The Development
Cenex developed a web-based tool that enables NHS Trusts to evaluate the operational, economic, and environmental advantages of various types of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). To optimise the tool for the project, Cenex completed the following:
- Included the specific vehicle types operated by the NHS
- Researched up-to-date total cost of ownership factors including vehicle capital costs, depreciation, fuel costs and maintenance costs
- Ensured the tool returns results based on a wide range of user defined inputs including annual mileage, fuel consumption and duty cycles. This allows a user to undertake a sensitivity analysis to understand the impacts of various operational factors.
- Provided external users with the opportunity to download their reports
- Established the tool as a web-based tool that can be linked to directly from other locations.
The Result
The tool can be accessed at https://zeft.cenex.co.uk/. It receives regular use from the NHS trusts, who can rely on the tool to provide them with accurate and relevant cost and emissions data when investigating into transitioning the vehicles within their fleet to battery electric alternatives. The trusts have now also actively requested Cenex perform an annual update to the factors used within the tool, ensuring that the results generated continue to be as accurate and representative of the real-world as possible.
