Zero Emission Infrastructure and Vehicle Specialist and Assistant Specialist (Technical Innovation)

The Role

We are recruiting a Zero Emission Infrastructure and Vehicle Specialist or Assistant Specialist for our Technical Innovation team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role within the Research and Technical Services Department, helping deliver our portfolio of collaborative R&D projects and technical consultancy services. This role will be principally responsible for:

  • Providing technical expertise into our projects, covering topics such as electric vehicle and marine infrastructure and the wider energy system.
  • Delivery of qualitative and quantitative analysis, technical due diligence, market readiness assessments and cost-benefit analyses for technologies and use cases, to support Cenex’ consultancy advice to clients.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver technical insight/leadership across the business.
  • Delivering technical advice to clients and partners to help advance zero emission vehicle infrastructure and energy projects.
  • Working with key UK and international stakeholders to further the mission of reducing the environmental impact of transport and to support government consultations and other consensus building activities.
  • Project management of research and consultancy projects or work packages.
  • Contributing/writing written content and technical analysis for the preparation of reports.
  • Delivery of high-quality presentations at project meetings and industry events.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in the low emission transport sector, or a related sector with excellent transferable technical experience. We are looking for candidates with the following attributes:

Essential Attributes

  • STEM degree, or equivalent experiences.
  • Strong interest in transport, energy and environmental technologies.
  • Technically minded with a willingness to learn about energy, electrical, and transport systems.
  • Ability to analyse and present technically challenging data and content in accessible verbal and written form.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills and report construction.
  • Strong interpersonal and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to work and travel flexibly in the UK, and on occasion abroad.
  • Previous experience in an energy or transport related R&D and/or consultancy role.

Desirable Attributes

In addition, we are very interested in hearing from candidates who possess any of the following:

  • Strong knowledge of the energy sector and understanding of the impact of electrification of transport on electricity networks.
  • Working knowledge of, or strong interest in, policies, regulations, and standards applicable to zero emission vehicles, infrastructure and energy systems.
  • Knowledge of low and zero emission transport and alternative fuel technologies.
  • Interest in emergent transport decarbonisation areas such as marine, farming and construction.
  • 2 years’ relevant, or transferable experience.
  • Experience managing research and/or consultancy projects.
  • Experience of industrial research within UK or European funded projects.
  • Information collection, database and statistical analysis experience.
  • Experience of programming or scripting languages and programmatic analysis.
  • International experience and/or able to work in a second language.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in electrical wiring systems, e.g. The IET 18th edition wiring regulations – BS 7671.
  • Knowledge of, or interest in EV charging standards, e.g. IEC 61851, IEC 62196, IEC 611980, ISO 15118 etc.
